Better oversight.Better protection.
An initiative to create a fire safety professional order with one central priority: protection of the public.
La protection du public, c’est la clé.Compétence · Intégrité · ImputabilitéPublic protection is the key.Competence · Integrity · Accountability
of the public
The proposal calls for the creation of a professional order to regulate a fire-safety profession, establish competency requirements and ensure member accountability. It also provides for a central fire-safety registry serving to trace professional acts and, for the most serious situations, providing a structured channel to the competent authority’s dashboard. The objective is to document risks more effectively, improve the flow of information and strengthen public protection.
In its current form, the proposal notably covers certain periodic inspections and tests of fire-safety systems — for example work performed in accordance with NFPA 25 or CAN/ULC-S536 when they are applicable —, the production of the corresponding professional reports, as well as the professional approval of certain documents, such as fire safety plans (PDSI). It also provides for certain professional assessments, attestations and opinions expressly described in the working texts. The exact scope remains to be refined through consultations and the work of the Office des professions.
As a non-partisan organization, it will seek cooperation between government and opposition parties for public protection, without assuming support and while respecting the Office des professions, consultations and parliamentary rights.
